Twenty eight pairs of 13- to 30 month-old children and their mothers participated in the conflict situation where toys with which children had been playing were removed by their mothers. Mothers reported their own personality traits and temperaments of their children by questionnaire. As a result, in that conflict situation, temperamentally active and pleasurable children tended not to self-soothe and temperamentally fearful children were likely not to seek desired objects. More extroverted mothers inclined to distract their own child through playing with him/her and more cooperative mothers tended not to persuade him/her smartly.
