Second, anticipatory guilt over inaction, self-regulatory function of shame and guilt, and the likelihood of the role of guilt or shame in the process of prosocial behavior are discussed. Third, the relation of social emotions, especially guilt, to other-oriented empathy that is the main factor in generating prosocial behavior is discussed from the constructive and developmental perspectives.
